FAQ:

Q: “What is ‘Classical Pop Fusion’ music?”
A:  “Classical Pop Fusion Violin Music – encompasses the beauty and precision of Classical Violin Music and fuses it with the rhythmic influence of Popular Music – Rock, Hip Hop, Country, Jazz & Blues…
In some cases, the Violin becomes the voice of a vocalist – singing the lyrics to a popular song.  Other times the Violin sings a solo instrumental and vocalists sing backup harmony.  There are endless possibilities for Violinists to explore in this diverse musical landscape!”
Q: “Which Violinists are breaking ground in this field of music?”
A:  “A few of the Violinists that my students admire are Lindsey Stirling, Taylor Davis and Karolina Protsenko…  It’s important to have good role models to emulate while learning to play the violin!  To get a broad understanding of the violin’s many voices, watch several youtube videos by each artist.  Beyond the diverse styles of music that they each play, some of the artists play different violins for certain songs or settings – Acoustic, Acoustic/Electric or Electric.  Children interested in learning to play the violin, may enjoy knowing that Karolina started playing violin at a very young age and has many music videos on youtube from age 9 on… In 2023 she’s 14 years old and is continuing to make music videos…”
Q: “Is it easier to play an Electric Violin than an Acoustic Violin?”
A:  “Electric Violins simply amplify sound through an amp or sound system, which in short means that fingering and bowing technique needs to be mastered on an Electric Violin just the same as on an Acoustic Violin.  If you have an Acoustic & an Electric violin and have the action setup the same on both of them, they can easily be played interchangeably.”
Q: “What are the advantages of playing an Acoustic Violin?”
A:  “I enjoy playing my Acoustic Violin because it has sweet warm tones and all I have to do is open the case and I’m ready to play!  Each high-quality Acoustic Violin has its own unique voice and it’s hard to replicate the tone and character with an Electric Violin - so finding an Acoustic that you really like is very special.
It’s also nice having the mobility of an Acoustic Violin for music lessons, camps, workshops, jams and performances.”
Q: “What are the advantages of playing an Electric Violin?”
A:  “One of the reasons I like playing an Electric Violin, is for quieter practice.  With headphones on I can set the volume low and with a headphone amp I can also adjust the EQ and effects to match a violinist’s recording for practice play-along.
Electric violins make audible sound even without being plugged in.  It’s similar to playing an Acoustic Violin with a rubber mute on the bridge, but without the string resistance that a mute creates for bow timing.
Another reason it’s nice to have an Electric Violin, is for live performance with other musicians.  Depending on the setup with microphones and other instruments, it may be easier to get a good blend and eliminates the chance of feedback through the sound system.  For certain songs it’s also nice to be able to dial in a pallet of effects!”
Q: “Are there any advantages to playing an Acoustic/Electric Violin?”
A:  “I have an old Acoustic Violin that has lots of warmth and character that I wanted to use for performances and have the freedom to move around while I play. So, I installed a L.R. Baggs violin bridge pickup on my violin and now connect that to a Fishman preamp belt pack and a wireless system.  The advantage to this setup is that I instantly hear how my Acoustic Violin is responding to my bow.  For outdoor performances and some indoor settings this can create a better musical experience as it eliminates having a microphone - wind &/or background noise.  Another benefit is that the audience hears a blend of my violin acoustically as well as the clear tones projected through the sound system from my violin bridge.”

FAQ

Fun Options for Family & Friends

Duo Lessons: Parent/child or siblings...
Take a 30 min duo lesson on the same kind of instrument (example: violin).

Private Lessons: Take 30 min. private lessons back-to-back with a friend or family member (example: 1 guitar & 1 violin) and spend part of the time playing music together!
Q: “What do students learn beyond playing songs?”
A: “In order to learn to play the Violin like a pro (achieve great sound), there are a number of skills that are focused on during lessons:

• Good form and posture
• Left hand Violin hold/position (for ease of playing and visual effect)
• Excellent right hand bow hold (classic bow hold for agility - freedom of movement)
• Intonation Success! (Learn the secret techniques for playing in tune on the Violin’s fretless fingerboard!)
• Rhythm! (Learn how to tap out the rhythm to keep time while playing the Violin as well as how to play in time with other instruments)
• The Violin learning method uses the aural music tradition of ‘Listen, Watch & Play!’ as well as standard music notation with ‘Tabs’ for easy reading!
Q: “Will there be opportunities for students to play together?”
A:  “As students progress, they can sign-up for Jam Camps &/or Musical Theater Camps."
